چکیده

Automated trading systems in the global financial markets are increasingly being deployed to do jobs previously done by skilled human traders: very often a human trader in the markets simply cannot tell whether the counter-party to a trade is another human, or a machine. Clearly, automated trading systems can easily be considered as “intelligent” software agents. In this paper we report on experiments with software traderagents running the well-known “AA” and “ZIP” strategies, often used as reference benchmarks in previously published studies; here we suggest disambiguated standard implementations of these algorithms. Then, using Exchange Portal (ExPo), an open-source financial exchange simulation platform designed for real-time behavioural economic experiments involving human traders and/or trader-agents, we explore the impact of introducing a new method for assignment adaptation in ZIP. Results show that markets containing only assignmentadaptive (ASAD) agents equilibrate more quickly after market shocks than markets containing only “standard” ZIP agents. However, perhaps counter-intuitively, in mixed heterogeneous populations of ASAD agents and ZIP agents, ZIP agents outperform ASAD agents. Evidence suggests that the behaviour of ASAD agents act as a new signal in the market that ZIP agents then use to beneficially alter their own behaviour, to the detriment of the ASAD agents themselves.

Behavioural Investigations of Financial Trading Agents Using Exchange Portal (ExPo)

Some major financial markets are currently reporting that 50% or more of all transactions are now executed by automated trading systems (ATS). To understand the impact of ATS proliferation on the global financial markets, academic studies often use standard reference strategies, such as “AA” and “ZIP”, to model the behaviour of real trading systems. Disturbingly, we show that the reference algo...

Bi-directional double auction for financial market simulation

Typical Double Auction (DA) models assume that trading agents are one-way traders. With this limitation, they cannot directly reflect the fact individual traders in financial markets (the most popular application of double auction) choose their trading directions dynamically. To address this issue, we introduce the Bi-directional Double Auction (BDA) market which is populated by two-way traders...

Animat Market - Trading Interactions as Collective Social Adaptive Behavior

We argue that human economic interactions, particularly bargaining and trading in market environments, can be considered as collective social adaptive behaviors. Such interactions are social in the sense that they depend on socially-agreed market regulations and communication protocols, and are collective in the sense that global market dynamics depend on the interactions of groups of traders. ...

An Adaptive Model on Asset Pricing and Wealth Dynamics with Heterogeneous Trading Strategies

This paper develops an adaptive model on asset pricing and wealth dynamic of a financial market with heterogeneous agents and examines the profitability of momentum and contrarian trading strategies. In order to characterize asset price, wealth dynamics and rational adaptiveness arising from the interaction of heterogeneous agents with CRRA utility, an adaptive discrete time equilibrium model i...

EXPECTED PAYOFF OF TRADING STRATEGIES INVOLVING EUROPEAN OPTIONS FOR FUZZY FINANCIAL MARKET

Uncertainty inherent in the financial market was usually consid- ered to be random. However, randomness is only one special type of uncer- tainty and appropriate when describing objective information. For describing subjective information it is preferred to assume that uncertainty is fuzzy. This paper defines the expected payoof trading strategies in a fuzzy financial market within the framewor...
